WHITING IS BOUND BY BLUE

WRFL young gun Sharnie Whiting is now a Carlton footballer, after the Blues selected her with Pick 36 in today’s NAB AFLW Draft.

The key forward captured the attention of Carlton recruiters in 2019, where she has played with Williamstown in the VFLW competition. The 19-year-old finished second in their club Best and Fairest.

Whiting played her junior football with both the Wyndhamvale and Werribee Districts Football Clubs.

In 2017 she was a part of the Falcons’ Under 18 Premiership team, kicking 50 goals for the season. She also won the league Best and Fairest award in the same year.

Whiting also represented the Western Youth Girls in 2015.

“Sharnie is such a dynamic player in the forward line: we’re thrilled to welcome her to our club,” GM of Women’s Football at Carlton Ash Brown said.

“Given how strong she is in the air as well as how much of a threat she is with ball-in-hand, we think she’s really going to bolster our key forward stocks alongside Tayla Harris and Darcy Vescio.

“Sharnie reads the game really well and, like all good forward, uses her strengths to her advantage. We think she’s got all the attributes to provide that x-factor at AFLW level.”
