WOLVES, FALCONS TOP THE LADDER FOR SEASON ’23

The last round for the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s Home and Away season played out in typical fashion, with the top sides in each Division locking in their final’s berths.
The Centurions played their final Friday night match of the season at their Galvin Park Fortress, securing a 44-point win over the Parkside Spurs. Charlees Sudholz was influential for the Spurs, whilst Kyleisha Kinces kicked 3 majors and teammate Giselle Lambley was best on for the Werribee Centrals side.
On Saturday morning Spotswood cemented their spot at the top of the Division 1 ladder with a comprehensive victory over Point Cook Centrals — the visitors walking away with a 63-point win. Mandy Seath was the lone Shark to hit the scoreboard, whilst Spotswood boasted 7 individual goal kickers, including 4 majors from Kiara Henry.
Taylors Run oval in Caroline Springs played host to a Lakers’ Double-header, with the 2s side taking on Point Cook, and the 1s going head-to-head with Yarraville Seddon. Point Cook kept the Division 2 side honest — the Lakers only snatching victory by a goal in a low-scoring affair. Tyla Romerona and Lauren D’Lima starred for the Caroline Springs side.
In the Division 1 hit-out, the Lakers locked in an 18-point win, snuffing out the Eagles finals chances in Season 2023. Keyona De Satge kicked 3 majors for the home side and was named amongst the best, whilst Ann-Marie Geary was the sole goal kicker for Yarraville Seddon.
Elsewhere, in Division 2, Laverton took on Braybrook, overcoming the Brookers in a 116-point drubbing. The win sees the Pies back into the finals for the first time since 2018, a huge achievement for the determined side.
Wyndhamvale went head-to-head with their avian rivals West Footscray, laying claim to the top spot in the Division 2 competition after beating out the Roosters by 37-points. Kellee McIntosh kicked 2 majors in the match, securing her grip on the Leading Goal Kicker nod for 2023, with her nearest challenger, Jemma Hay, kicking the lone goal for the Roosters.
To complete the round, and the Home and Away season, North Sunshine hosted the Division 2 Spotswood side, valiantly going down to the Wolves by 77-points. Destiny Teuira starred for the Road Runners, whilst Lydia Waghorne claimed 3 majors for Spotswood.
Congratulations to all the teams who played their hearts out and competed this season. For some it’s time to rest and recover, but for others, the excitement lifts — with premiership glory there for the taking.
Spotswood, Werribee Centrals, Caroline Springs and Parkside Spurs (Div 1), and Wyndhamvale, Spotswood, West Footscray and Laverton (Div 2) will all begin their finals campaigns this weekend ahead.
