WRFL GEARING UP TO SOCKIT2MND THIS WEEKEND
This year the Western Region Football League is once again pleased to announce our support for the FightMND initiative with our Sockit2MND round from the 17th to 18th of June off the back of the AFL’s Big Freeze.
We’re ALL in to find a cure and fight the Beast that is Motor Neurone Disease (MND) – and we’re calling on your club to help.
So, we ask if you haven’t already, rally your players, pull up a pair of Big Freeze 9 Socks and host a special game during the Big Freeze 9 Community Round from 17-18 June.
It’s going to take us ALL to win the battle against the Beast.
About MND
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move around, speak, swallow and breathe fail to work normally and eventually die. With no nerves to activate them the muscles gradually weaken and waste. There is currently no truly effective treatment and no known cure.
The aim of the Sockit2MND Round is to:
- Raise awareness of MND within your local sports club
- Raise much needed funds for vital MND research
- Show your support for those currently fighting MND or have lost a loved one to the disease
The Big Freeze 9 socks are a great accessory to the Big Freeze beanie, which has become a feature throughout the football community – most notably at the annual Collingwood vs Melbourne match on the Monday of the King’s Birthday weekend.
The WRFL thanks those clubs who have purchased the Sockit2MND socks and will wear them in this weekend’s matches. In doing so, you are helping to find effective treatments and a cure by taking part in the 2023 Sockit2MND Round.
It’s time to pull your socks up and help us fight MND.
