WRFL WELCOMES TWO NEW CLUBS
The Western Region Football League has welcomed two new clubs – Aintree Football Club and the VU Western Spurs Football Club.
The two new clubs were formally accepted into the league at last night’s Special General Meeting.
WRFL CEO Ritchie Hinton said both Aintree and the Western Spurs will be great additions to the WRFL.
“I welcome Aintree FC and the VU Western Spurs to our league. We look forward to working with both clubs and seeing them participate in our great competitions,” he said.
Aintree intends to field Under 8’s and Under 10 teams in 2023 with the potential for an Under 14’s team as well.
President Nathan Brama said he was excited to be joining the WRFL.
“We have put the work in over the past few months, and it is great to see the establishment of the Aintree Football Club,” he said.
“The support from the community has been great. We look forward to 2023 and developing more connections with our community.”
The Aintree Football Club will be hosting an Information Session at Aintree Food & Wine Co. at the Woodlea Shopping Centre on November 17 at 5.30pm.
The VU Western Spurs will be entering a Senior Women’s team into the Victoria University Polytechnic competition.
Ash Block said the club was excited about this next chapter in their club’s history.
“This (move) comes as the club’s best interest to further succeed, to develop, to maintain players, volunteers and staff and to recruit new Spurs for the future,” she said.
The Spurs will be celebrating their 30th year in 2023.
