WYNDHAMVALE AMONG TEAMS TO MAINTAIN UNBEATEN START
Division 2 Senior Men’s action got underway with two Anzac Day matches featuring three of the top four sides.
At Kindersmith Reserve, home side Sunshine claimed their third straight win with a 29.15 (190) to 3.6 (23) triumph over North Footscray.
Star goal kicker Nathan Carroll bagged his second double figure haul of the season with 12 majors while captain Patrick O’Keefe was again outstanding for the Kangaroos who maintained second place on the ladder.
Sunshine travel to Tarneit this weekend while North Footscray are back at home where they’ll play the Suns.
In the other Thursday encounter league leaders Albion made light work of Braybrook saluting 18.22 (130) to 5.3 (33) away at Pennell Reserve.
Jesse Cavanagh continued his good form, receiving the Anzac Medal for the Cats after a six-goal showing, while Akoi Akoi was awarded the same honour for the Brookers.
Albion should have no trouble maintaining their winning ways when they host North Sunshine this weekend.
Sunshine Heights were also victorious by 97 points in Round 3, registering a 19.22 (136) to 5.9 (39) win over Tarneit to claim their first four points of the season.
Tito Nyawela starred with nine goals for the home side while Michael Scolaro was named the best for the visitors.
Next up for the Dragons is a trip to Newport who have started the season three from three.
The Panthers recorded the biggest win of the round running out 157-point victors against North Sunshine.
Mustatafae Mesto (eight goals) and Youssef El hawli (five goals) led the way for the away side who piled on 16 majors in the second half.
Mathew Doherty and Dillon Bampton battled tirelessly for the Roadrunners.
Wyndhamavale also maintained their unbeaten start to the year claiming a 51-point away win over the Suns.
After a tight start to the contest the visitors kicked way in the second half to triumph 12.15 (87) to 5.6 (36) with Damon Stephens and Josh Foster the best performers for each side.
The Falcons are back at home this coming weekend against Albanvale.
In the WynFM broadcast game Laverton outgunned Western Rams in a high scoring affair that finished in favour of the visitors, 21.12 (138) to 13.10 (88).
Shaun Evans and Antony Pasqua were the key contributors in the win for the Magpies while Jarryd Underwood booted six goals for the hosts.
Laverton will be joined by Braybrook with both clubs having a bye in Round 4.
Next up for the Rams is West Footscray who went down to Albanvale by 10 points.
The Cobras produced a strong first half at Shorten Reserve and then managing the game over the final two quarters to secure a 13.16 (94) to 11.18 (84) result.
Kieran Ryall impressed with five goals for Albanvale with the Roosters best served by Jordan Jobling and captain Chris Long.
