YARRAVILLE TRIUMPH IN ROUND 7

By CONNOR PAIN

Yarraville Seddon Eagles pushed Hoppers Crossing to the bottom of the ladder with a comprehensive 52-point victory.

The Eagles lead at each break and were rarely troubled on their way to their second consecutive win, 13.14(92) to 5.10(40).

The home side now head into the week off in a good mood and will face Point Cook on the King’s Birthday Weekend.

Werribee Districts had a day out against Caroline Springs, planting their flag as the team to beat in season 2023 with a resounding 18.14(122) to 7.10(52) win.

The Tigers were on top all afternoon, utterly dominant for large stretches, with the Lakers unable to mount much resistance to the rampaging ladder leaders.

The visitors got off to a hot start, but inaccurate kicking hindered them early, a repeat from their first quarter against Altona in Round Six.

Once again it mattered little as a six goal to two second term put the game firmly in their favour before another six goals after the main break put the game to bed.

A 52-point lead at the final change ended at a thumping 70-point triumph, Trent Lee and Lachlan Rainbow booted four majors each in a dominant offensive display by the Tigers.

The loss pushes the Lakers two games outside of the top three, a tough hill to climb despite just seven rounds into the season.

The flag favourites travel to face local rivals Hoppers Crossing in Round Eight, with Caroline Springs battling Point Cook Centrals on the hunt to end a four-game losing streak.

Point Cook survived an inaccurate afternoon in front of goals to escape with a three-point win against Spotswood, despite kicking one fewer goals than the visitors on the day.

The Bulldogs started poorly with just two behinds in the first but slowly got the game in their favour, doing enough over the remaining three terms and putting enough scores on the board to edge out the 5.14(44) to 6.5(41) win.

The Woodsmen can bounce back when they host to Altona.

The Vikings proved far too good for Point Cook Centrals, running out 13.16(94) to 5.5(35) victors.

A four-goal lead at the first break was an early indicator as the home side were a class above, their defence a standout as they conceded just five goals all afternoon.

Daniel Strnak was valiant in defeat, booting all five goals for his side in the 59-point defeat.
